Last month, Australian carrier Optus - in an update on its website - said that the Nougat update for the original Samsung Galaxy A5 (from 2014) is under testing and the roll out is expected sometime around end of January. Sadly, that didn't happen. However, the carrier has now once again provided a heads-up on the update, effectively saying that the roll out is now expected sometime this month. No exact date or week was mentioned, although we do hope the roll out begins sooner than later. Source

Alleged Huawei P10 Lite spotted in benchmark listing
A new Huawei device has been spotted on Geekbench. Listed as Huawei WAS-LX1A, the handset is powered by Kirin 655 chipset with octa-core 1.71GHz processor, and has 4GB RAM. In addition, the benchmark listing also reveals that the device runs Android 7.0 Marshmallow out of the box. While there's no confirmation, it is being said that the phone in question is the P10 Lite. 32GB Pixel C no longer available from Google Store
The Pixel C the first "Pixel" device to come from Google running Android, proper. It was first rumored to run Chrome OS, to succeed the Chromebook Pixel. In the end, it launched with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 back in December of 2015. The Pixel C is just over a year old at this point, and it appears Google has stopped stocking an entry-level model with 32GB of storage. At this time, only the 64GB version of the Android tablet remains for sale from Google for $599, that raises the entry-level price by $100 from $499. As the Pixel C reaches this far in its life-cycle, there's no...
Apple may no longer support 32-bit apps in iOS 11
Back in 2013, Apple announced that its iPhone 5S was the first smartphone to support 64-bit applications. This was coming with Apple's A7 chip, though apps needed to be updated to work on the 64-bit architecture. App developers at the time either updated their apps or left them as-is. Afterwards, in order for new apps to become available on the App Store, 64-bit code was a requirement once February 2015 came around. This means that some of the older apps in the App Store portfolio may not be 64-bit, and are running in 32-bit emulation. RIP 32-bit emulation mode in iOS 11?...
Samsung sends invitations for MWC press event, teasing Galaxy Tab S3
A very recent report from South Korea claimed that the Galaxy Tab S3 was to be the star of MWC for Samsung, instead of the Galaxy S8. Not too long after, Samsung has basically confirmed this is true. Samsung has just sent a mass email to the media for its press event to take place at MWC in late-February. The event will be taking place on February 26 at 7PM local time (CET). The invitation also teases the Galaxy Tab S3 by showing its lower bezel. The specs that we know are based off of previous benchmark listings which claim it has a Snapdragon 820 CPU, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of...
Huawei P10 Plus render leaks with iris scanner, more specs detailed
A report from China reports of a new render of the Huawei P10 Plus. While we've already seen an alleged render of the P10 a week or so ago, we only got front render of the P10 Plus with a black finish. This black finish on the front didn't allow us to notice an extra sensor on the front of the phone, which could plausibly be an iris scanner, just like the Note7 had. Given that the P10 has no rear-sensor and a physical home button, it's obvious that fingerprint scanner would move to the front. One confusing piece of news is the inclusion of a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on the back of...
Lenovo Tab3 8 Plus oficial renders leak alongside full spec details
We are clearly getting ever closer to the official introduction of Lenovo's next Android tablet, the Tab3 8 Plus. This model first surfaced online last September, belive it or not, but it's still not been announced. Yesterday we saw it in a benchmark's database, and today the full spec details for it have been leaked along with a bunch of official press renders for your viewing pleasure. There will be two Tab3 8 Plus models, one Wi-Fi-only (TB-8703F), the other with 4G LTE mobile data too (TB-8703X). Aside from the connectivity options, the other specs are shared between the...
iOS 11 may not support 32-bit apps
iOS has supported 64-bit apps since the launch of the iPhone 5s in 2013. And since iOS 9 came out, when you open a legacy 32-bit app on a newer iPhone, you receive a notice saying that the app "may slow down" your device and that the developer needs to update it to "improve its compatibility". In the recently released first beta of iOS 10.3, however, the wording in that notice has been changed. It now reads as seen in the image below. While "future versions of iOS" is incredibly vague, this is a very strong hint that iOS 11 could be the first iteration of Apple's mobile operating...
Honor 8 Lite leaks inside a case, looks just like the Huawei P8 Lite (2017)
If you were at least a little bit baffled by Huawei's recent move of introducing the P8 Lite (2017), using the name of the P8lite from 2015 instead of the P9 lite from last year as a base for the new model, get ready for some more weirdness. First off, let's mention that the P8 Lite (2017) may actually end up being sold as the P9 Lite (2017) in some countries. Confused yet? Well, you're going to be even more confused by the newly leaked Honor 8 Lite. This is shown in the images below inside a case. You may have noticed something familiar about it though - yes, it looks exactly like the...
Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will finally be unveiled at MWC, report claims
With the big Galaxy S8 unveiling clearly not happening at MWC next month, what will Samsung show to eager reporters in Barcelona? Well, it's going to be the Galaxy Tab S3, according to a new report out of South Korea. Samsung's event at MWC will be all about the new premium tablet, which has been leaking quite a few times lately. The Tab S3 was initially thought to be coming in 2016, but in the end what we got last year were minor spec refreshes of the Tab S2 duo from 2015 (without any name change). The actual Tab S3 is thus almost ready to finally become official. Some previously...
Samsung Galaxy S8 to have up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, new rumor says
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is said to become official at an event on March 29, ahead of its release on April 21. So far we've heard many things about it (including most recently details about the battery), and we've even seen it in some leaked images. One thing about it has remained pretty mysterious, however, and that's the amount of RAM it will pack. In terms of built-in storage space most of the rumors so far have agreed that Samsung will make 64GB the new 32GB. But will that be the only option? A new rumor says no - in fact, there will be S8 models with 128GB of space on board. Naturally,...
LG G6 prototype leaks in live images
We are now less than one month away from the official announcement of the LG G6 at MWC in Barcelona. And as we get closer to the February 26 event, more and more leaks about the G6 are starting to pop up. Today a few images have been outed showing what looks to be a G6 prototype of some sort. Its back, however, is in a less than finished state, as you can see. So this is obviously not going to be what the G6's back ends up looking like, in terms of material choices. The phone should have a metal unibody construction, and what's portrayed here has a different back shell used for testing....
Google Chrome for iOS is now open source too
While you can use browsers other than Safari on iOS, and have been able to for a few years now, none of those alternatives are allowed to bring their own rendering engines to Apple's platform. So they all have to use the built-in WebKit rendering engine that also powers Safari. This is why up until today the code for Google Chrome's iOS version has been kept separate from the Chromium open source project, which is available for developers to use to compile browsers for the other operating systems that Chrome runs on. Yet Google has "spent a lot of time over the past several years" making...
Samsung Galaxy S5 in Europe is now receiving the January security update
Following the similar rollouts that went out in the last 24 hours for Sprint's and Verizon's versions of the Galaxy S5 in the US, Samsung is now busy pushing out an update to those units purchased from Europe. The update is now rolling out over-the-air in several countries across the continent, coming in as a 53MB download. It will add the usual unnamed bug fixes and performance improvements, but also the security update for January. This was readied by Samsung and Google at the start of the month, as you may recall. If you have a Galaxy S5 that's unbranded and was bought unlocked, then...
Super Mario Run brings $53M after 5% of downloaders end up buying the game
2016 was good year for mobile gamers and Nintendo in particular. IT first got the chance to catch em all with Pokemon Go and then try to defeat Bowser in Super Mario Run. The company felt an actual cash flow with the pre-Christmas release of the second app, even if it was only for iOS. According to Wall Street Journal, Super Mario Run brought JPY 6 billion, or about $53 million from users purchasing the full version after completing the free first three levels. And Nintendo says that over 5% of users actually bought the right to keep running and win coins. But the company is not satisfied...
Over a million Netgear router users open to attacks
You better upgrade your Netgear firmware of your router before it's too late. A new report has it that they are not safe at all. The alarming fact is that a bug lets anyone enter 31 different Netgear models, or over a million users. And the worse part is it can even be done remotely, if the remote management option is switched on. This feature is off by default but anyone that has physical access to the network of the router can still gain unauthorized access. According to the post on Trustwave's blog, everyone can abuse the defensive mechanisms and turn the routers into...
Alcatel sets MWC event for February 27, says 'Light up'
Alcatel phones are packing their bags for the Mobile World Congress. The press conference has the tag line "Light Up" and will start in the morning of February 27 in Barcelona. According to rumors, Alcatel will launch 5 smartphones which will feature a modular design similar to the Moto Z and its Moto Mods. One of the add-ons will be a colorful LED panel, similar to the image on the press invite. Those lines will dance to the music, similar to the JBL Pulse. An invite to Alcatel's MWC event Will we see all Androids or will Alcatel keep the Windows Phone dream alive? It is, after...
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 taken apart, easily
It's best if you never have to, but if you do need to take apart your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 at least now you have a guide. And as it turns out, it's not that much of a hassle. Most components (including the aluminum back cover) are not secured by screws so you just need to pry them off. Usually, it's either glue or double-sided tape that holds pieces to the motherboard and the team at FoneArena that disassembled the phone reports it worked just fine after they put it back together. Here's an interesting note - the Redmi Note 4 that is powered by a Snapdragon 625 used a Sony IMX 258...
WhatsApp sued by German consumer group
The Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband or the Federation of German Consumer Organisations claims WhatsApp's changed privacy terms in August are illegal. Back in the summer the messaging platform passed a statement that it starts to transfer some data to Facebook's social network. "Each consumer must be able to decide on his own which personal data is revealed and how it is used", the group said. We remind you that Germany is the only country in EU without nationwide Google Street View due to request from the very same organization. Via
Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 won't get Android 7.1.2
It turns out that the Motorola Nexus 6 and HTC Nexus 9 are getting the cold shoulder on the Android 7.1.2 update. That was confirmed to DroidLife by a Google employee. Android 7.1.2 is the next planned update and will be out in a few months with some optimizations and bug fixes. Since both the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 are past their updates-guaranteed timeframe (2 years) it's no surprise to see them left out. On a positive note Google will continue to bring the must-have security patches to both devices for at least another year. That's good news for people reluctant to let go of their...
New Moto Mod brings wireless charging and IR blaster in a thin package
The Moto Mods platform that Lenovo introduced alongside the Moto Z line is certainly an intriguing concept. But like most proprietary tech solutions, it can only ever be as good as its third-party support. In an effort to address this, the Chinese OEM is currently holding the "Transform the Smartphone Challenge" along with IndieGoGo to source and crowd-fund interesting new Moto Mods. "The Ultimate Moto Z Mod" is one of the entries in the contest and it definitely looks promising. In its current state it is little more than a wireless charging coil, that plugs into the phones USB...
Vodafone Nougat firmware for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge is out
You can now download the carrier-branded Android 7.0 Nougat firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge thanks to Vodafone. The carrier released the firmware for the flagship pair in France and Germany days ago but if you know your way around side-loading the new OS onto your Marshmallow-stuck Galaxy S7 model, you can. Android 7.0 brings a host of major improvements to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge like Nougat's faster app installs, Blue Light filter for the display, the ability to adjust the screen resolution to conserve battery, and other, under the hood tweaks and...
Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 clears the FCC
With leaks poring in from an astounding number of industry sources, it is not uncommon to get glimpses of upcoming devices really early in their development cycle. However, few actually manage to linger in the rumor mill for almost a whole year, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. Most sources seem to agree that the delay was somehow related to the unfortunate Galaxy Note7 saga. But now that is finally put to rest and the Tab S3 appears closer to a release than ever. The device already received its Wi-Fi certification, as well as a Bluetooth one. Now, we can add FCC to the listl....

The A57 has a 16 megapixel camera at the front with f2.0 aperture and Oppo's Beautify 4.0 software for visual enhancements. Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 spec leak: single camera with Dual Pixel AF, bigger battery
The Redmi Pro was an experiment by Xiaomi - it used a China-made OLED display and a dual-camera. Now its successor is on the horizon and a screen snap that (allegedly) shows its specs. The Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 drops the dual camera but its single digital eye on the back uses a better sensor - the 12MP Sony IMX 362. This is a 1/2.55" sensor with large 1.4µm pixels and Dual Pixel autofocus. That's a good deal better than the 1µm pixels that the Mi Note and Mi Mix got. Other changes include a larger battery, 4,500mAh (up from the already ample 4,050mAh), and a version with 6GB of RAM....
Report suggests the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will have bigger batteries than the S7 duo
Samsung SDI will provide the batteries for the Galaxy S8 and a new report suggests they will have larger capacities than the S7 batteries. The Galaxy S8 will have a 3,250mAh battery and the Galaxy S8 Plus a 3,750mAh one according to the report. That's up from S7's 3,000mAh and S7 edge's 3,600mAh battery. Those batteries will have to feed larger screens - 5.8" and 6.2" according to the latest info - though the Snapdragon 835 is reportedly more battery efficient than the 820 chipset it replaces. The rumor mill expects the Galaxy S8 duo to go on sale on April 21 for 800 and 900...
Mobilcom-Debitel to bring Nokia Android devices to Germany
The latest bit of online gossip by the popular leakster Roland Quandt has it that MobiCom-Debitel is looking to form long-term partnership with HMD Global, bringing the Nokia 6 to Germany in the forthcoming months. It will be following the Nokia 150 featurephone that is already available on the German market. Nokia 6 is still available exclusively in China with over 1.4 million registrations. There was also a rumor about a white Nokia 6 but HMD Global denied such information and assured the device is currently only officially sold in only one country and a single color. There's...

The updates bring Android security fixes for January. No other changes are included - at least that's what the respective software update pages on Verizon's website say. As is usually the case with OTA roll outs, it may take some time before the update notification pops up on your device's screen. Source 1 2 3 4

However, that's no longer the case as the devices are now available in Russia as well. The phones were up for pre-order in the country, and have now started shipping. While the Pro 6 Plus is only available in 64GB storage and dark gray color option, the M5 is available in black color and both 16GB and 32GB storage options. Other Pro 6 Plus and M5 variants are expected to go on sale in Russia in February - they are currently up for...

Also unlike the version at Best Buy, the phone does not...
Razer acquires Nextbit, the company behind the Robin cloud phone
This is a really interesting case, so let's briefly recap: Nextbit was a startup company that built a phone around a cloud feature that would allow seamless usage of apps and content that transcended between phone's on-board storage and a complimentary cloud service, automatically. This phone would be called the Nextbit Robin. The company's initial Kick Starter goal of $500,000 was smashed with a final pledge amount of around $1.3 million. Visual representation of unused data being backed up and restored Fast-forward to today, a year or so after the Robin began shipping to...

Google has announced that it's ready to begin rolling out a 7.1.2 beta build to all testers of compatible devices. The Nexus 6P's beta update is still being worked on, and is expected "to release soon". To sign up for the beta, you can visit android.com/beta and choose which...

Lyft pulls destinations from your calendar too, will add custom shortcuts soon
Earlier this month Uber added calendar integration, letting you quickly set a destination based on the location of your meetings or events. And now one of Uber's biggest competitors, Lyft, has replicated that exact functionality in its apps. For this to work, you first need to give Lyft access to your calendar(s), as you'd imagine. This is a one-time process though, after which you will start to see the locations of your upcoming events as destination suggestions in Lyft. The functionality works with Google Calendar and the built-in calendar in iOS, and its rollout has started...
Buy any smartphone from T-Mobile, get 11.2% of its price back via prepaid card (from February 1)
T-Mobile's (successful) strategy recently has been to constantly make waves in the wireless industry by announcing a new consumer-focused move every few weeks or so. And today is no exception. The latest campaign from the magenta carrier is billed as "its own version of the Boston Tea Party", and is all about taxes - but in a good way. Starting on February 1, when you purchase any smartphone from T-Mobile using an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) on a One or Simple Choice Unlimited plan, you will receive 11.2% of the device's full price back in the form of a prepaid card. The amount you...
Meizu Pro 7 to come with 5.7-inch 4K screen, up to 8GB of RAM
The Meizu Pro 7 just keeps on leaking, but the many things we've heard about it up until this point don't necessarily fit with what today's leak claims. That said, the following is based on official-looking marketing materials for the device, so it may be accurate information after all. There's no way of being sure, though, so don't forget not to take any of this for granted. Chinese media report that the Meizu Pro 7 will come equipped with a 5.7-inch touchscreen with 3,840x2,160 resolution, also known as 4K. Furthermore, the display should have 10,000:1 contrast ratio and cover 153%...
Apple outs first watchOS 3.2 beta to developers, SiriKit support and Theater Mode are in
The previously announced SiriKit and Theater Mode functionalities for the Apple Watch are now ready to be tested. A new beta version of watchOS for Apple's wearables is now available, yet only for developers. A public beta version of this build will unfortunately not surface, since there's no way to downgrade software on an Apple Watch and the company feels that public beta testers should always have the option of going back to a past stable build if they want to. watchOS 3.2 beta incorporates SiriKit support, which means you'll finally get the full-featured Siri on your watch, and not...
Dropbox officially launches Paper globally, releases Smart Sync for businesses
Today is a big day for Dropbox as it has announced two launches - a new service and a new feature. Dropbox Paper is this company's answer to the rise of Google Docs. It's a tool that's built for managing workflows that masquerades as a note-taking app. You can use it to write stuff, of course, but on top of that it can manage and assign tasks, and it has the ability to auto-generate presentations in Keynote and other such apps. Dropbox Paper Paper launched in a closed beta in the second quarter of last year, and then that turned into a public beta in Q3. Starting today, it's available...
Microsoft is working on simplified Windows 10 Cloud to fight Chromebooks
You probably don't know this, but Chrome OS is pretty successful in the US. At one point devices running it even outsold Macs. Most of that success comes from the education market, which is really satisfied with the simplicity, security, and manageability of Chrome OS, all coming in somewhat of a contrast to Windows. It also helps that Windows on cheap devices doesn't make for a great user experience, but that might change soon. Maybe. According to a new rumor and some finds from the Windows 10 SDK, Microsoft is working on a new SKU for its operating system. This will allegedly be...
Starbucks now has a virtual assistant of its own for some reason
3D on TVs? 3D screens on phones? Curved screens on TVs? All of those should move over, for the latest fad to take over anything even remotely tech-related is all about virtual assistants. Oh, and excessive use of the "AI" acronym of course. Does it already feel like there are way too many "AI-powered" virtual assistants out there (and none are very good)? Well, then, brace yourselves, for 2017 is shaping up to be all about more, yes even more of these (and killing bezels, but that's another subject). The latest company to get in on the assistant action? Starbucks. Yes, the newest...
LG's UltraFine 5K display for Macs becomes unusable when placed near a router
In October of last year LG announced the UltraFine 5K, a monitor that was designed specifically to work well with Apple's Macs. This has been implied by Apple to be a successor of sorts to its now-discontinued Thunderbolt Display, and it's recommended by the company for new MacBook Pro buyers. That's all fine and dandy, but if you purchase one of these to use as an external monitor for your MacBook, you may not be happy to learn that you can't place it near a wireless router. Seriously. If your UltraFine 5K monitor is within two metres or so of a router, it will basically become...
Samsung to launch new wireless noise-cancelling headphones along with Galaxy S8
We know that Samsung will not reveal Galaxy S8 at MWC but in the late March. Apparently this isn't going to be the only release - the company also plans to launch Active Noise Cancelling wireless headphones, an update to the already well-known wired Samsung Level in ANC headphones. The Korean manufacturer promises reducing of ambient noise by up to 20db for a "more immersive listening experience". The headphones will also have a new feature called "Talk-In Mode" that enables listeners to hear outside sound when someone calls their name. According to the source the Level In ANC...
Snap Inc are filing for IPO next week
Snapchat is a social media that you either can't live without or don't understand. But either way there are strong opinions which makes the platform so popular. And due to its popularity the company behind it, Snap Inc, plans to file for initial public offering(IPO) next week. This means Snapchat will go public sometime in March after procedures are cleared. The timing of the IPO is not finalized. We haven't seen a big IPO a long time ago and we are quite eager to see how it will roll out. Sources say the company is aiming to be valued at $25 billion. Snap's main product,...
