Flashback: Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018), the world's first phone with four cameras on its back

How many cameras are enough? How many are too many? The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) came out around three and a half years ago and it was the first ever quad camera phone. It promised a lot of versatility, allowing you to switch between three focal lengths to get the best possible framing for your shot, as rendering a shallow depth of field normally possible only with the large sensors of DSLRs. Let’s look at the camera roster of the A9. There were three usable cameras on the back and one utility module (we’ll get to the front-facing camera later). 24 MP primary camera, f/1.7 aperture,...

Weekly poll results: OnePlus Ace/10R success hinges on the right pricing

Money, money, money – it always comes down to the price of a phone these days. The OnePlus Ace, which launched as the OnePlus 10R in India a few days ago, has potential, but the company has to hit the right price point. Many in the comments were wishing that this will be a sub-€400 phone in Europe, however, while we don’t know the exact price yet, the €450 price tag of the Realme GT Neo2 makes it unlikely. We do know the price for India: ₹39,000 for the base model (80W charging, 5,000 mAh battery) and ₹44,000 for the Endurance Edition (150W charging, 4,500 mAh battery). We mentioned the...

iQOO Neo6 SE camera revealed

Remember when new phone announcements used to happen all in one go, at one event, with zero specs being officially outed beforehand by the companies themselves? Those were the days. Then OnePlus came along and changed the game with its drip feeding of small tidbits method of creating and sustaining hype over extended periods of time. Well, now everybody's doing just that, and vivo sub-brand iQOO has been applying exactly this formula when it comes to the Neo6 SE. This phone is due to become official on May 6, but at this rate, we'll know absolutely everything there is to know about it...

Google Pixel Watch's battery size leaks

The Pixel Watch leaks campaign is now in full force ahead of its probable announcement at Google I/O next month. We've already seen a prototype "accidentally" "forgotten" in a restaurant, in a box but with no charger. This very conveniently managed to show the world the upcoming hardware without also portraying any part of its software. Then the watch got certified by the Bluetooth SIG in three versions, and today a new rumor drip-feeds us the next bit of info: the battery capacity. It's going to be 300 mAh. Is that large? Is that small? Let's put it into context. The Pixel Watch...

DxOMark: OnePlus 10 Pro's cameras score poorly, places behind the Mi 10 Pro

DxOMark published its review of the OnePlus 10 Pro's camera and it appears to be in line with most of the reviews out there. The conclusion is that the handset has some considerable issues that keep it from matching its rivala. As a result, the handset takes 27th place in DxOMark's global ranking, right behind the likes of Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, Mi 11 Pro, vivo X60 Pro+ and Apple iPhone 12 Pro. All are more than year-old flagships. The most notable cons DxOMark pointed out are color artifacts with a pink-ish cast, especially in low-light conditions, ghosting and fusion artifacts. Subpar...

Apple had a record quarter from January to March

Apple has just reported its quarterly results for its fiscal second quarter, which ended on March 26 and is thus confusingly the first quarter of the year (fiscal years are funny like that sometimes). Anyway, it's good news for the Cupertino company, as it's posted record revenue for a March quarter. Apple's revenue was $97.3 billion in that quarter, up 9% year-on-year (aka compared to the 2021 March quarter). This resulted in quarterly earnings per diluted share of $1.52, which you should care about only if you own Apple shares. Also for shareholders, it's important to note that Apple's...

iQOO Neo6 SE renders outed by retailer listings

Yesterday vivo sub-brand iQOO announced that it will fully unveil the Neo6 SE smartphone on May 6, while also teasing some of its specs. Before that, we'd already seen some of its specs leak, but so far what was missing was a clue as to the design of the device. Well, the wait is over, as a bunch of Chinese retailers already have listings of the iQOO Neo6 SE up, and these all reveal the image you can see below. The Neo6 SE is thus very reminiscent of the Neo6 in terms of design, which is no surprise given the seemingly identical display specs and size of the two handsets. The iQOO...

Samsung Galaxy M51 starts receiving Android 12

The Samsung Galaxy M51 was long overdue to get Google's latest OS, but, on the other hand, this is almost a two-year-old mid-range handset, so kudos to Samsung for pushing a second major update. Anyway, the handset is reportedly getting Android 12 in Russia with build number M515FXXU4DVD1 and it will likely hit other markets pretty soon. That's how the company usually distributes updates. It's worth noting that this is pretty much the end of the road for the Galaxy M51 in terms of major firmware updates. The device won't be getting Android 13, although it will continue to receive...

Three Google Pixel Watch models receive Bluetooth certification

The Google Pixel Watch has made headlines as someone got their hands on a unit that went missing at a Chicago bar earlier this month (not an original scenario in the tech world). We got to see some live images of the unreleased smartwatch prototype with its round display with rounded edges. A Google Pixel Watch was forgotten at a restaurant (photos by u/tagtech414) Three new models GWT9R, GBZ4S, and GQF4C have been certified for Google LLC by the Bluetooth SIG labeled as a “BT Wearable Design-Controller Subsystem”. It is believed that this certification is for the three variants...

iQOO Neo6 SE's battery size confirmed

The iQOO Neo6 SE arriving on May 6 was said to pack a 4,700 mAh battery, and that rumor has turned out to be true since iQOO today announced that the Neo6 SE will have a 4,700 mAh battery under the hood, which will go from 1% to 100% in 30 minutes with its 80W adapter. However, it's worth noting that iQOO achieved those results when it charged the battery in a room with an ambient temperature of 26°C, and the charging time will likely vary depending on your room's ambient temperature. iQOO previously confirmed that the Neo6 SE will be powered by the Snapdragon 870 SoC and have 256GB...

OnePlus Nord2 finally gets first Android 12 Open Beta build

Following an earlier release of an Open Beta build of Android 12 for the original Nord, today OnePlus has finally managed to get round to issuing a similar release for the much newer Nord2, which launched last July running Android 11 and is still stuck on that version of the OS even today. That's a big shame, but OnePlus is seemingly working on rectifying it. One small step at a time. The first such step is today's release of OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 1 for the Nord2. As usual with such builds, don't go down this path if you're not comfortable with bugs and random issues showing up. The Open...

Netflix will expand its Games catalog to up to 50 titles by the end of this year

Last year Netflix launched the Games service, which allows subscribers of the streaming giant to download and play select Android and iOS games for free. 17 titles are available at the moment, but The Washington Post reports that the company aims to grow that list to nearly 50 games. To be clear, we’re talking about games that run on your device, you just don’t have to buy them (similar to Apple Arcade) and there are no ads or in-app purchases. This isn’t a game streaming service like GeForce Now or Google Stadia. It looks like the company will leverage vertical integration – it is...

Samsung Galaxy A04s renders show a tweaked design

Time passes slowly for Samsung’s A0 series of phones, so you shouldn’t be surprised that speculative renders of the Galaxy A04s don’t look too much different from the previous model. The dimensions given by @OnLeaks are 164.5 x 76.5 x 9.18 mm, fractions of a millimeter larger than the A03s. However, the display is expected to stay at 6.5”, probably still an HD+ panel. Samsung Galaxy A04s (speculative renders) The back does show a redesign. There is a triple camera as before, though we don’t have details about each module. There is no camera bump, however, only the lenses...

Google Pixel 6 may receive audio feature like Apple’s ‘Spatial Audio’

Earlier today, Google released the first Android 13 Beta build for supported Pixel devices. As per Esper.io’s Mishaal Rahman via Twitter, files found within the first Android 13 built hint that the Pixel 6 Pro may be getting an audio feature like Apple’s ‘Spatial Sound’. This feature adds more dimension to things being listened to through headphones using software tweaks. The spatializer effect is already included in the new Beta, though not fully enabled. A shared library for this feature was found in the “soundfx” folder and suggests that such a feature might arrive to the Google Pixel...

The latest model to be graced with 2021's Android version is the Moto G100 launched back in April of last year with Android 11 on board. The update to Android 12 is now rolling out to users in Brazil, and that's no coincidence as Brazil is one of Motorola's biggest markets, sales-wise. At the moment only the XT2125-4-DS version of the G100 is getting Android 12, and it involves a 1.5GB download. After installing the new software, the build number will be...

Starting Q2 2022, however, the standard Pro sees a whopping increase to 8 million orders, whereas the Pro Max sees a bump to 6.5 million. That makes a 10 million increase over the last quarter. However, the iOS 4 launch meant a lot to owners of older iPhones too, since it made their devices much better. In fact, iOS 4 may be one of the most important releases for the platform. First, we have to...

Weekly poll results: Oppo F21 Pro pair fails to impress

Given how the global economy has been going lately, it’s understandable that people are price sensitive. Which is bad news for Oppo’s new F21 Pro duo, whose hardware doesn’t quite justify their ₹20,000+ price tags. The results from last week’s poll show that there may be some hope for the Oppo F21 Pro 5G. It found a small group of supporters, even at its current price. And if it gets a price drop, even more people could warm up to it. As it stands, ₹27,000 can buy you a better screen, better chipset, better camera and better battery. Okay, maybe not all at once, but you can have several...
